Death Road to Canada review

Death Road to Canada mobile indie game

Let’s think, which computer games have long since become obsolete? We can say with 100% probability that it’s those entertainments that consist of pixels – indie games. But in spite of this, developers are supporting them in every way possible by introducing hybrid projects. Death Road to Canada appeared a few years ago for personal computers, have been able to reach the newfangled smartphones, thus emphasizing content and a variety of scenarios.

If you translate the name of the game, you can understand even without playing it, what the game is about. The storyline that runs throughout the fun tells us about the world after the end of the world, where people who have managed to stay alive in the US want to get to the Canadian border, where the forest is located and rescuers have saved the population from a zombie epidemic. You have to choose equipment for your personal squad. Then the journey begins, in which you have to gather resources and kill piles of evil things.

The character you choose has the ability to pick up and throw all sorts of objects at the enemy. He also easily uses bats, umbrellas, boards and firearms to confront them. He then returns with the loot – items necessary for a vehicle that can be driven around, but an element of the subsequent story progression.

Pressing “gas” the game becomes analogous to The Banner Saga and the gamer can choose different options for events.

You can help a survivor or go your own way without stopping, bypass the enemy or give him a blow to the forehead. All your choices can both reduce the size of your squad and increase it. Despite the seriousness of the plot, the developers haven’t forgotten about the humour. If you need more loyalty, you can exchange it for hamburgers from the dog-tramp. It’s worth mentioning that the dog is an excellent fighter against zombies, and can also distract from your squad of bandits.

If your vehicle suddenly runs out of fuel, you won’t be able to collect it, and you’ll have to move to the border by shuffling your feet. On top of that your companion in this walk will be a dog – from the outside it looks like a lot of fun. By choosing your actions in time of his movement on the car you can get into various random situations, making each passage a unique one.

You can explore any object. There is an opportunity to find important health products, weapons and other things. Then you get back in the car and continue your journey to the Canadian border.

But the game can be very short, because of different choices, made by you during the story. Throughout the gameplay you will inevitably have to die, after which you start the game from the beginning. There is no option to save progress points and hero ranks to advance to the next levels.

When compared to the PC version, the developers were able to change the balance and introduce random situations, while reducing the number of failures on the road to salvation.

It’s possible to choose challenging survival modes, during which you have to resist a zombie invasion for a while.

In short, it’s a very interesting and addictive zombie shooter that’s a lot of fun.
